About Roland Emmerich

Roland Emmerich built his name on Stargate in 1994, then defined the modern disaster film with Independence Day in 1996 and Godzilla in 1998. The Patriot in 2000 detoured into historical war, before The Day After Tomorrow in 2004 froze the planet and 10,000 BC in 2008 went prehistoric. 2012 in 2009 drowned it all at once and remains his purest destruction reel.

White House Down in 2013, Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016 and Midway in 2019 kept the scale high with mixed receptions. Moonfall in 2022 sent the moon hurtling at Earth and flopped hard enough to slow his pace. None of these share continuity except the two Independence Day films, so release order is the easiest way to watch the effects craft evolve while the scripts stay happily familiar.

Good to know

Only Independence Day and Resurgence connect, and they sit years apart in story and in release, with two decades between them. Emmerich also made smaller films like Anonymous in 2011 and Stonewall in 2015, left out here to keep this a disaster run. Expect the formula: a divorced dad, a scientist nobody believes, and a landmark collapsing on schedule. Moonfall is the latest released film, with no dated follow up announced.
