About Rush Hour
Rush Hour pairs Hong Kong Inspector Lee, played by Jackie Chan, with LAPD detective James Carter, played by Chris Tucker. The first film (1998) forces them together over a kidnapped consul's daughter in Los Angeles. The second (2001) follows counterfeit money to Hong Kong and Las Vegas, and the third (2007) takes the case to Paris after Lee's old friend is shot.
All three were directed by Brett Ratner and released by New Line. A fourth film has been discussed since 2007, with Chan confirming talks in 2022 and new production reporting through 2026, but no cameras have rolled yet.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order here: each sequel picks up after the last with the same partnership intact, so release order is story order. The 2016 CBS series rebooted Lee and Carter with Jon Foo and Justin Hires for one season in a separate continuity. It was cancelled after 13 episodes and is safe to skip unless you want every version of the pairing.
