About Shane Black
Shane Black wrote Lethal Weapon before directing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005 with Downey and Kilmer as a PI pair. Iron Man 3 followed in 2013 closing the early MCU arc with the Mandarin turn. The Nice Guys arrived in 2016 pairing Gosling and Crowe in 1970s Los Angeles.
The Predator came in 2018 as his franchise entry, and Play Dirty in 2025 adapted the Parker novels with Mark Wahlberg. Christmas shows up in nearly all of them, but plots never cross. Release order shows his buddy patter growing bigger.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each case resets. Kiss Kiss and Nice Guys pair as his Christmas detective peak with Downey and Gosling. Iron Man 3 also fits MCU runs but works here as a Black entry with the holiday siege. The Predator breaks the run as the forest hunt. Play Dirty sits last as the 2025 release with no dated follow up yet, so the list holds for now.
