About Shutter
Shutter follows photographer Tun and Jane after a hit and run, with spirit shadows surfacing in photos. The Thai original from Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom opened in 2004 and became Thailand box office leader that year. The American remake from Masayuki Ochiai arrived March 2008 via Fox, moving the couple to Tokyo with Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor.
The original keeps Tun guilt and Natre haunting in Bangkok labs and corridors, while the remake repeats the photo hook with new names and a Tokyo honeymoon job. India also remade the story as Sivi in 2007 and Click in 2010, but those stay outside the core Thai plus US pair.
Good to know
Watch the 2004 Thai film before the 2008 remake, since the remake assumes the photo ghost logic known and softens the original final image. The two share a setup but reset continuity, so there is no sequel thread between them. An Indonesian 2025 version exists as a loose third take for completists only.
