About Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic's films start with the 2020 origin of Sonic landing in Green Hills, then add Tails and Knuckles against Robotnik in the 2022 sequel. The Drone Home short and the six-episode Knuckles series slot between the second and third films.
Sonic 3 from December 2024 brings Shadow into the team-up against Gerald Robotnik, with the stop-motion Christmas short alongside it. Sonic 4 is dated March 19, 2027 with Amy Rose joining, plus an event film for December 2028. The games sit in a separate continuity tracked in the companion play-order guide.
Good to know
Release order works with one placement rule: watch Knuckles between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, since it bridges them directly. The Drone Home short follows Sonic 2 and the Christmas short follows Sonic 3. Sonic 4 is dated March 19, 2027 with filming wrapped, and a universe event film follows in December 2028. No game knowledge is needed for the films.
