About Species
Species starts with Sil, a human alien hybrid who escapes the lab and hunts for a mate across Los Angeles. The 1995 original is a theatrical creature feature, while its three sequels went direct to video and follow new hybrids in Eve, Sara and Miranda, each one tied to the first film's DNA.
Watch in release order. The story is linear, with Species II continuing the first film's aftermath and part three growing out of part two. The fourth film reboots the premise with a new cast but still assumes you know the rules, so it plays best last.
Good to know
There is no alternate timeline here, since every sequel builds on the previous hybrid. H. R. Giger designed Sil, which explains the look that carries through all four films. Expect a sharp drop in budget after the original, because parts two through four were made for video. The series closed in 2007 with no new film announced.
