About Terence Fisher
Terence Fisher defined Hammer horror in color from 1957 on. The Curse of Frankenstein arrived in 1957 with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, then Dracula in 1958 with Lee as the Count and Cushing as Van Helsing. The Revenge of Frankenstein closed 1958, then The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Mummy in 1959.
The Brides of Dracula followed in 1960, The Curse of the Werewolf in 1961 with Oliver Reed, and The Phantom of the Opera in 1962. Later picks include The Gorgon in 1964, Dracula Prince of Darkness in 1966, Frankenstein Created Woman in 1967, The Devil Rides Out in 1968 and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed in 1969. Watch in release order, since the Frankenstein and Dracula threads each build in that sequence.
Good to know
This is a starter pick, not the full Fisher run of about 50 features. The films are largely standalone except the Frankenstein and Dracula threads, and release order matches story order closely enough for a first pass. His final film, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell from 1974, sits outside this pick. Start with Dracula or The Curse of Frankenstein. The run is complete. Fisher died in June 1980.
