About Tigon
Tigon British Film Productions was formed in 1966 by Tony Tenser and challenged Hammer with low budget horror. The Sorcerers arrived in 1967 with Boris Karloff, directed by Michael Reeves. Witchfinder General followed in 1968 with Vincent Price as Matthew Hopkins, plus The Blood Beast Terror and Curse of the Crimson Altar the same year.
The Haunted House of Horror came in 1969, then The Beast in the Cellar and The Blood on Satan's Claw in 1971, the latter a village folk horror about a devil cult among children. This pick closes with Virgin Witch and Doomwatch in 1972. The films are standalone, so watch in release order to see Tigon move from city horror to folk horror.
Good to know
These are standalone features with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. Start with Witchfinder General for the best known Tigon title, then take The Blood on Satan's Claw for folk horror. Curse of the Crimson Altar is also listed as The Crimson Cult in the US. The studio stopped production in the early 1970s, so this run is complete with no new entries expected.
