About Tintin
Tintin comes from Herge’s comics about a young reporter, his dog Snowy and Captain Haddock. The 1960s brought two French live action films, Tintin and the Golden Fleece from 1961 and Tintin and the Blue Oranges from 1964, both original stories made while the comics were still running.
The animated features Tintin and the Temple of the Sun from 1969 and Tintin and the Lake of Sharks from 1972 adapt the comic style more directly. The 1991 animated series covers most of the books faithfully across 39 episodes, and Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin from 2011 uses motion capture to combine three books into one adventure.
Good to know
The 1991 series is the most faithful version and the best entry point after one film. The live action films look dated and can be skipped on a short run. Spielberg’s film was planned as the first of a trilogy, but no sequel has entered production as of September 2026, so treat the 2011 film as a standalone rather than part one of an unfinished set.
