About Asterix
Asterix adapts the French comic by Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, running since 1959. Animated films started in 1967 with 2D classics like Asterix the Gaul and the original story The Twelve Tasks of Asterix. A CG revival began with The Mansions of the Gods (2014), and live-action films have run since 1999 with a rotating cast around Gerard Depardieu's Obelix until 2012.
Release order works because nearly every story stands alone. The Netflix miniseries Asterix and Obelix: The Big Fight (five episodes, released April 30, 2025, directed by Alain Chabat) adapts the 1966 album. The next animated feature, Asterix: The Kingdom of Nubia, is dated December 2, 2026 in France on the official Asterix site.
Good to know
This list names key entries, not all 16 screen titles. Skipped animated films: Versus Caesar (1985), in Britain (1986), Operation Getafix (1989), Conquers America (1994), and the Vikings (2006). Skipped live-action: At the Olympic Games (2008) and God Save Britannia (2012). All are optional side stories.
Dogmatix (Idefix) leads his own prequel series, Idefix et les Irreductibles (Dogmatix and the Indomitables), airing since 2021 with two seasons and 104 episodes, set in Lutetia in 52 BCE for younger viewers. Date caution: the official asterix.com page dates Kingdom of Nubia to December 2, 2026, while some listings show October 14. The December date is used here as the most recent official one.
