About Blue Sky Studios
Blue Sky Studios started in New York in 1987 and broke through with Ice Age in 2002, which turned Scrat, Manny, Sid and Diego into global stars. Robots in 2005 proved the studio could build original worlds, while Horton Hears a Who in 2008 and Rio in 2011 widened its range from Dr. Seuss to Brazilian music and dance.
Later highlights include Epic in 2013, Rio 2 in 2014, The Peanuts Movie in 2015, Ferdinand in 2017 and the final feature Spies in Disguise in 2019. Disney closed Blue Sky in April 2021. Release order is the clear path, since each franchise sits apart and the animation quality visibly improves across the years.
Good to know
No shared universe connects these films, so every entry stands alone. Watch the three Ice Age films in order for the mammoth herd story, and Rio before Rio 2 for Blu and Jewel. Robots, Epic, Peanuts, Ferdinand and Spies in Disguise each need no prior viewing. For a short introduction to the studio, try Ice Age, Rio and Peanuts as three distinct peaks.
