V begins with two event miniseries: V (1983) lands the Visitors with their friendly faces and hidden appetites, and The Final Battle (1984) escalates to open resistance. The weekly series (1984 to 1985) continues the war across 19 episodes, ending unresolved.
The 2009 ABC reboot retells the invasion with new characters across two seasons, sharing only the premise. Watch the originals in order first, then the reboot as a separate take. The red-dust resolution and the Anna-era Bliss are each version's signature turn. The 1980s show's effects date it; its allegory does not.
Good to know
The 1984 series was cancelled mid-arc, so its finale is not an ending: the reboot exists partly because of that. The 2009 version was cancelled after two seasons as well, leaving both continuities open. The two versions share character names (Diana, Anna aside) but no plot. No revival has been announced since 2011, so the four entries are the set.
