About V/H/S
V/H/S started in 2012 as a found footage anthology built around cursed tapes, with six segments from six different directors, Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Ti West, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg and the Radio Silence collective, tied together by Brad Miska's wrap-around framing device.
V/H/S/2 followed in 2013 and Viral in 2014. After the break, Shudder revived the brand with V/H/S/94 in 2021, then 99 in 2022, 85 in 2023, Beyond in 2024 and Halloween in 2025. Each one resets the world and the format while keeping the anthology structure, and the year in the title only sets the retro style, not the story date.
The ninth film, V/H/S/Mixtape, was announced in August 2026 and had its world premiere at Beyond Fest on September 30, 2026 before Shudder released it on October 9, 2026. The franchise now covers nine found footage films, two spin-off films and one short form web miniseries on Snapchat.
Good to know
There is no story order for V/H/S. The tapes never connect across films, and the year numbers like 85 or 94 only set the retro style for that entry.
Watch in release order to see the format evolve from Craigslist tapes to the science fiction turn of Beyond, then to the mixtape format. Skip freely after the first two if you only want the highlights, since the anthology films share no characters.
Mixtape is out now on Shudder after its Beyond Fest premiere, so it no longer sits at the end of the list as an undated item. The SCP adaptation and any further sequel are not covered here.
