About Victor Erice
Victor Erice made only four features in fifty years, and each one is about seeing. Spirit of the Beehive follows two sisters after watching Frankenstein in a Castilian village. El Sur follows a daughter imagining her father south. Dream of Light watches painter Antonio Lopez paint a quince tree.
Close Your Eyes returns after three decades with a director searching for a vanished actor friend. The films rhyme through light, posters and unfinished stories, so release order lets those echoes land in the order Erice actually made them.
Good to know
Watch in release order. El Sur is famously unfinished, since the producer stopped the shoot, so expect an open ending rather than a missing disc. The Lifeline segment in Ten Minutes Older can wait until after the four features, since it is a short variation on the same gaze theme. No new feature has been announced since Close Your Eyes premiered.
