About The Witches
The Witches follows Luke with his grandmother against the Grand High Witch in 1990 with Huston, Jenkins and mouse change. It ends with the witches foiled. The film stands as the classic. The 2020 remake follows Hero with Hathaway in the same book plot with changes. No third film has been dated in this guide. Watch the 1990 original first, then the 2020 remake, since the remake assumes the mouse rules. Both tell the same Dahl story separately with new casts and hotels. Hotels stand alone per version, but mouse and potion beats grow from Huston to Hathaway.
Good to know
Release order works best, with the classic revealed before the remake riffs on it. Story order does not apply, since both tell the same plot separately in different eras. Either film works alone, but the remake twists land best after the original. Start at the 1990 entry for the full mouse rules and Grand High Witch.
