About Babylon 5
Babylon 5 is the five year space station saga created by J. Michael Straczynski that ran from 1994 to 1998 after the 1993 pilot film The Gathering. It follows Sinclair then Sheridan and the crew as Earth, Minbar, Centauri, and Narn slide toward war, with TV films filling gaps and the 13 episode Crusade continuing the story in 1999.
The prequel film In the Beginning from 1998 retells the Earth Minbari War that the series spends years revealing, so newcomers should save it for after season four. The animated Road Home from 2023 is a separate reunion story and goes last.
Good to know
Release order is recommended because Straczynski paced reveals around it, especially the Sinclair arc and the In the Beginning prequel. Chronological order moves that prequel first and slots Thirdspace inside season four, which works on a rewatch but spoils the slow build for new viewers. Crusade and Legend of the Rangers both assume the main series.
