About Sliders
Sliders is a science fiction series created by Tracy Torme and Robert K. Weiss that ran from 1995 to 2000. Quinn Mallory builds a machine in his basement that opens a wormhole to parallel Earths, and a test run strands him, his professor, his friend Wade and a singer named Rembrandt with a timer that cannot find home. Each week is a new alternate history, from a world where the Soviet Union won the Cold War to one where time runs backwards.
The first three seasons aired on Fox, 48 episodes from March 1995 to May 1997. Fox cancelled it, the Sci-Fi Channel picked it up for two more seasons and 40 episodes, and the show ended in February 2000 with 88 episodes in total. The move came with a lower budget, a Los Angeles shoot and a much darker tone.
The cast changed as well. John Rhys-Davies left during season 3, Sabrina Lloyd's Wade was written out at the end of that season, and Jerry O'Connell and his brother Charlie left after season 4. Season 5 introduces a different Quinn and leans on new characters. Watch the Fox years first; the later seasons are a different show wearing the same timer.
Good to know
Release order is story order. The group's slides are sequential and the alternate worlds rarely repeat, so there is nothing to reorder. The only real decision is whether to continue past season 3.
Seasons 1 and 2 are the strongest and the most consistent. Season 3 has the best individual episodes and the worst production chaos. Seasons 4 and 5 have fans, mostly for the premise, but the budget cuts show and the original cast is gone. Stop after "The Exodus" if you want the intended arc, or push on for the completist run.
The show never got a proper ending, and season 5 closes on a cliffhanger. A 2025 cast reunion revived talk of a reboot, with the original actors interested, but nothing has been ordered and no date exists.
