About Blackadder
Blackadder follows Edmund Blackadder and Baldrick across history: the Middle Ages, Elizabethan England, the Regency and the First World War trenches. The four series ran 1983 to 1989 with 24 episodes, plus the Christmas Carol, Cavalier Years and Back and Forth specials.
Watch the four series in broadcast order, then the specials. Each series reboots the characters in a new era, so the order tracks the craft from uncertain beginnings to the trenches finale rather than a plot. The specials assume the full run's in jokes, which is why they sit last despite their scattered settings.
Good to know
The first series plays broader than what followed, with Ben Elton joining from series two to sharpen the cruelty of the scripts throughout. Goes Forth ends the run with the famous final scene, designed as the farewell. No revival is in development, so the 24 episodes plus specials are the complete set.
