About Boardwalk Empire
Boardwalk Empire follows Nucky Thompson running Atlantic City through Prohibition deals with Capone, Luciano and Meyer Lansky. Season 1 from 2010 sets the 1920 election rig, later years move through warehouse wars, Florida land and the 1929 crash. Season 5 jumps to 1931 with an 8 episode close on the Commission rise.
Five seasons aired on HBO with 56 episodes and no revival ordered. Watch in broadcast order since alliances, murders and federal cases stack year to year. The finale was shot as an end with Nucky fate and the Tommy tracking settled, so treat the run as closed rather than paused.
Good to know
Broadcast order is the only order with no prequels to place. Season 1 plays slowest while wards and stills set, so give it four episodes before judging. The 1931 jumps in season 5 assume the 1920s betrayals, so do not start there. New viewers should track Nucky, Margaret and Van Alden as the spine while gangsters rotate. The show stays complete with streaming as the way back.
