About Cosmos

Cosmos premiered on PBS in 1980 for 13 episodes with Carl Sagan tracing atoms to galaxies aboard the Ship of the Imagination. The run set science doc rules with history, evolution and cosmic calendar lessons for all ages.

Cosmos A Spacetime Odyssey followed in 2014 for 13 episodes with Neil deGrasse Tyson updating physics and climate, then Cosmos Possible Worlds closed in 2020 with 13 future focused shows on worlds. Watch all three in release order for students and teachers, since each assumes prior science and adds new visuals. The trilogy ended in 2020 with no fourth run announced as of 2026.

Good to know

Start with the 1980 Sagan run for cosmic calendar and evolution base that later series quote. The 2014 Tyson run updates physics with new effects and assumes that base. Possible Worlds from 2020 closes with future ethics that land best after both earlier voyages. Episodes stand alone by topic, but release order shows science and production leaps clearly across 40 years.
