About Dad's Army
Dad’s Army follows Mainwaring’s Walmington platoon with Wilson, Jones, Frazer and Godfrey. Series 1 from 1968 sets the bank, hall and pier rules across 6 episodes. Later series add the van, guns and U-boat plots with the same catchphrases.
The 1971 film retells the formation as an extra, while the 2016 film reboots with new actors as a separate take. The TV run ends in 1977 after 9 series with the platoon intact. Watch in broadcast order to meet each recruit handover cleanly, since jokes assume the platoon seen.
Good to know
Watch series 1 to 9 in order for the platoon run. The 1971 film fits after series 3 as background rather than a must. The 2016 film works as a separate reboot after the classics rather than a season 10. Treat the TV run as complete, since reunion specials never became a series and the platoon ends together.
