About Dexter

Dexter ran eight seasons on Showtime from 2006 to 2013 and ended with Dexter faking his death and disappearing. New Blood (2021-22) picks up ten years later in upstate New York with Michael C. Hall back in the lead. Original Sin (2024-25) is a prequel set in 1991 Miami with Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, and Resurrection (2025) continues past New Blood.

Two orders exist and they are not the same sequence. Release order moves forward and lets Original Sin play as a look back, which is what the show's makers designed. Chronological order opens with the prequel instead, but Original Sin's frame story begins after New Blood's finale, so watching it first gives away how New Blood ends.

Good to know

Resurrection season 1 ran ten episodes from July 11 to September 5, 2025; season 2 premieres October 30, 2026 with ten weekly episodes on Paramount+. Original Sin was renewed in April 2025 and then cancelled that August, so its one season is the whole prequel. The Trinity Killer prequel was written, but showrunner Clyde Phillips said in September 2025 it was unlikely to go ahead.
