About Doc Martin
Doc Martin ran on ITV from September 2004 to December 2022 with Martin Clunes as Dr Ellingham in Portwenn. Series 1 runs 6 parts, series 2 runs 8, then series 3 through 10 run 7 to 8 each for 79 parts including the 2006 TV film On the Edge. The film runs 92 minutes and fits between series 2 and 3.
Two 2003 Sky prequel films with Clunes in variant roles sit outside main continuity, as does Saving Grace from 2000 that introduced a Bamford version. The show was eyed to end in series 9 then recommissioned in 2020 for a final tenth run plus Christmas special. No new UK run had an announcement as of September 2026.
Good to know
Watch series 1 through 10 with On the Edge between 2 and 3, since the surgery, relationship and village arcs run linear. Skip the 2003 prequels on a first run, as they use different roles for the same lead. Runtimes run 50 to 92 minutes, longer than standard drama, so plan accordingly. The 2022 Christmas special closes the run with a farewell documentary days later.
