About Extant
Extant stars Halle Berry as astronaut Molly Woods, back from 13 months solo with a mystery pregnancy. Season 1 aired July to September 2014 across 13 episodes about the Seraphim spores and android son Ethan. Season 2 aired July to September 2015 across 13 episodes with Jeffrey Dean Morgan as JD, shifting to hybrids and Humanichs.
CBS ordered the show straight to series from Mickey Fisher with Steven Spielberg producing. Ratings slipped in year two and CBS cancelled October 9, 2015. The season 2 finale resolves the immediate hybrid plan while leaving wider invasion threads open.
Good to know
Broadcast order is story order, with six months passing in fiction between seasons. Season 1 leans on pregnancy mystery, season 2 leans on AI and hybrid action, so expect a tone shift after the recast of John plots. Watch all 13 of season 1 before season 2, since Ethan growth and Julie ties carry straight across.
