About Extras
Extras is the BBC and HBO sitcom created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who also star. Gervais plays Andy Millman, a background performer chasing speaking parts, with Ashley Jensen as his friend Maggie Jacobs and Merchant as his hapless agent Darren Lamb. Series 1 ran six episodes on BBC Two from July 2005 and Series 2 ran six from September 2006, each built around guest stars playing versions of themselves.
The run ends with a 90-minute Christmas special, first shown on HBO on 16 December 2007 and on BBC One on 27 December 2007. It catches up with Andy after sitcom success and closes his arc, so treat it as the finale rather than an optional extra.

Watch Series 1, Series 2, then the Christmas special in release order, since Andy's rise from extra to sitcom star only pays off in sequence. There is no separate chronological order worth listing: the story moves forward with no flashback episodes to reorder. The guest star spots from Kate Winslet, David Bowie and others land best when each series is watched straight through.
