About Gotham
Gotham ran five seasons and 100 episodes on Fox from 2014 to 2019, following Jim Gordon and young Bruce Wayne as villains rise. Seasons run 22 episodes except the final 12 in early 2019 ending with Batman debut.
Pennyworth ran three seasons and 30 episodes from 2019 to 2022 as an Alfred prequel in 1960s London with Thomas Wayne and Martha, from the same creators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon. It was cancelled February 2023. Release order means Gotham then Pennyworth, while story order flips them. This universe sits outside Arrowverse and films.
Good to know
Chronological order would start with Pennyworth in the 1960s, then Gotham decades later, but the guide recommends release order because Pennyworth was written knowing Gotham reveals. Pennyworth stars a younger version of the same Alfred from Gotham. No new series in this continuity has been announced as of September 2026, so both orders end in 2022.
