About House of Cards
House of Cards premiered on Netflix in February 2013 as the streamer's first prestige drama. It follows congressman Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, scheming toward the presidency with his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright. Seasons one and two cover the vice presidency plot, season three the campaign, and season four the election fight.
Netflix fired Spacey in late 2017 over misconduct allegations and rebuilt season six around Claire with eight episodes in 2018. Creator Beau Willimon had left after season four, so the final year closes threads the earlier room set up rather than launching new ones.
Good to know
Watch one through six in order, since every betrayal assumes you remember the last deal. The fourth wall breaks where Frank addresses the camera stop after season five, which makes the tonal shift into season six easier to spot. The British original from 1990 shares only the premise of a scheming whip, so save it as background after the American run rather than interleaving it.
