About I Know This Much Is True
I Know This Much Is True follows Dominick Birdsey, a house painter caring for his schizophrenic twin Thomas while confronting their stepfather's abuse and their mother's secrets. Mark Ruffalo plays both brothers in dual roles. The HBO limited series aired six episodes in 2020.
The story cuts between 1990s present-day crises and 1980s youth flashbacks that explain the family fracture. Early episodes establish Thomas's library incident and Dominick's failed marriage. Later chapters reveal the grandfather's manuscript and the mother's hidden history. The intercutting is deliberate, so watching all past scenes first would spoil reveals timed for the present.
Good to know
Watch episodes one through six as aired. The dual timelines are already arranged for maximum impact, with each flashback answering a question raised just before. There is no separate chronological cut worth assembling. Viewers should expect heavy themes around mental illness and family trauma across the full six-hour run.
