About The Mosquito Coast
The Mosquito Coast stars Justin Theroux as inventor Allie Fox, fleeing federal agents with wife Margot and kids Dina and Charlie. Season one from April 2021 runs seven episodes from California to the Mexican border as Allie's past crimes surface. Season two from November 2022 runs ten episodes in the jungle around Casa Roja.
Apple cancelled the show in January 2024 after two seasons, leaving the second finale as the close. The 1986 Peter Weir film with Harrison Ford tells a later chapter of the same family with a different tone. Watch the Apple run first, then the film as an alternate ending.
Good to know
Watch season one then season two with no detours, since Margot's secret and Dina's rebellion build directly. The show invents a cartel threat not in the novel to raise stakes, so book readers should expect changes. The 1986 film contradicts the series on several family details and fits best as a separate take. Treat the S2 finale as the series end despite some threads left open by the cancellation.
