NCIS spun out of JAG in 2003 around Gibbs leading the Navy criminal team with DiNozzo, Abby and Ducky. The flagship passed twenty seasons with Parker taking over after Harmon's exit. Los Angeles ran fourteen seasons from 2009, New Orleans seven from 2014, Hawai'i three from 2021, Sydney from 2023, and Origins premiered in 2024 with young Gibbs.
Crossovers like the LA backdoor pilot and the 2023 triple event sit inside their airing seasons rather than apart. The universe stays active with the flagship and Sydney renewed, so the watch path keeps growing past any fixed endpoint.
Good to know
Watch each show in its own broadcast order starting with the flagship, since crossovers assume the home teams first. The JAG pilot episodes work as background before season one but are not required. Origins fits as a prequel after meeting Gibbs, with its 1990s cases playing better knowing the later legend.
