About Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson exists in two adaptations. The Fox films cover the first two books loosely: Lightning Thief in 2010 and Sea of Monsters in 2013 with Logan Lerman, ending without a third film. The Disney Plus series reboots faithfully with Riordan involved: season 1 from 2023 adapts Lightning Thief, season 2 from December 2025 adapts Sea of Monsters across eight episodes, and season 3 in production adapts Titan's Curse.
Pick one adaptation and finish it. The films compress and age up the story, while the series paces one book per season with the author's hand on it. Watching the films first spoils the series' cleaner reveals, so the series is the recommended start for newcomers. The books sit behind both as the complete telling.
Good to know
Start with the Disney Plus series, not the films. Season 1 maps the first book closely, season 2 continues that fidelity into Sea of Monsters, and season 3 will do the same for Titan's Curse once dated. The Fox films work as a curiosity afterward for comparison, since they diverge fast and stop early. Riordan has disowned the film scripts while writing the series teleplays, which settles which version to trust.
