About Sanford and Son
Sanford and Son aired on NBC from January 1972 to April 1977 for six seasons and 136 episodes. It follows Fred Sanford running the Watts junkyard with son Lamont, Aunt Esther feuding and Grady dozing beside them. The show adapts Britain's Steptoe and Son around Redd Foxx's nightclub timing with the famous heart-attack gag.
Grady ran one season in 1975 with Whitman Mayo leading, and Sanford Arms followed in 1977 without Foxx for four episodes. No revival has been ordered beyond the 2019 live special restaging with new casts, leaving the junkyard run closed.
Good to know
Watch one through six in broadcast order, since Lamont's independence plots and the Esther feud assume sequence across the whole run. The show stays stage-bound by design, so expect the junkyard set to carry nearly every scene. Grady and Sanford Arms work as extras after the main run with only the shop behind them.
