About The Sopranos
The Sopranos follows New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano through therapy sessions and family wars across six seasons and 86 episodes on HBO, 1999 to 2007. James Gandolfini anchors every season, from the pilot's panic attacks to the 2007 finale's cut to black.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021) rewinds to Newark from 1967 to 1972, with Michael Gandolfini playing the teenage Tony under gangster Dickie Moltisanti. Watch the series first. The film assumes you know these people, and its best scenes echo lines Tony speaks in the show.
Good to know
Season 6 aired in two parts: 12 episodes in 2006 and 9 in 2007. Creator David Chase has floated a follow-up film about Tony in his twenties, but nothing was ordered as of 2026-09-17.
