The Americans follows Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, Soviet spies posing as a married couple in Virginia from 1981 to 1987. It ran six seasons and 75 episodes on FX, with five seasons of 13 episodes and a final season of 10. The premiere aired January 2013 and the 68 minute finale aired May 2018.
Each season steps forward in the 1980s with missions tied to real events like the Reagan buildup and Gorbachev thaw. FX renewed the final two seasons together in 2016 so the ending lands on purpose. Watch 1 through 6 in order. Late payoffs turn on covers set up years earlier.

There is no separate chronological order. Flashbacks fill backstory but never carry a season, so release order is the only list. Season 1 starts in 1981 and season 6 ends in 1987.
