About The Big Cigar
The Big Cigar follows Huey P. Newton facing Oakland charges in 1974 while producer Bert Schneider builds a false Big Cigar movie to smuggle him to Cuba. Episode 1 stages the beating, warrant and desperate call to Bert. Episodes 2 and 3 chase forged passports, crew recruits, Panther splits and cover help from Sydney Clark.
Episode 4 lands Huey in Havana safe houses while the fake shoot creates dailies, costs and FBI wiretaps in Los Angeles. Episodes 5 and 6 tighten agent tracking, money drying up and Huey's choice between exile and return to trial. Creator Jim Hecht adapted Joshuah Bearman's article for Apple across six May 2024 episodes. Watch 1 through 6 in order.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 through 6 in release order, since passport ruses, crew lies and FBI surveillance stack until Cuba. The show compresses the true 1974 flight with composite agents and producers, so expect dramatized edges. No second season was planned, so the six episodes stand as a finished escape story with no alternate path to add.
