About The Plot Against America
The Plot Against America premiered March 16, 2020 on HBO as six episodes from David Simon and Ed Burns, adapting the 2004 Philip Roth novel. Stars Morgan Spector as Herman Levin, Zoe Kazan as Bess Levin, Winona Ryder as Evelyn Finkel and John Turturro as Rabbi Bengelsdorf, with Gary Cole as Charles Lindbergh. It opens in 1940 Newark where Lindbergh defeats Roosevelt on an isolationist ticket.
Middle hours track radio hate, Just Folks relocation program, Homestead Act moves to Kentucky, Winnipeg trip, street riots and Lindbergh disappearance through the April 20, 2020 finale. Filmed in New Jersey with period radios, newsreels and streetcars. Watch episodes 1 through 6 in broadcast order, since release order follows the election calendar and each family move explains later fear.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 through 6 straight, since alternate history dates, job transfers and youth programs build and skipping breaks who moves where. The novel adds newsreel detail and a Roth narrator that the series spreads across Herman, Bess, Sandy and Alvin. Treat the six as one finished miniseries with no second season, ending on election uncertainty rather than a continuing timeline.
