About Watchmen
The HBO Watchmen ran 9 episodes from October to December 2019 as a sequel set in Tulsa 34 years after the comic, with Sister Night and Looking Glass around the 1921 massacre. Lindelof left after season 1 and HBO calls it a limited series with no second season.
The animated duology adapts the 1986 comic directly in its 1985 setting. Chapter I arrived August 2024 covering issues 1 through 6 and Chapter II in November 2024 covering 7 through 12. Watch the HBO season straight, then the two animated chapters as their own branch. Do not interleave them.
Good to know
The HBO flashbacks to Hooded Justice and Doctor Manhattan belong inside the 2019 season, so do not pull them out into timeline order. The animated films keep the squid ending from the comic, unlike the 2009 live film. No HBO season 2 has been announced as of September 2026, so both branches end closed.
