About When They See Us
When They See Us premiered May 31, 2019 on Netflix as four parts from Ava DuVernay with Attica Locke writing. Teens are arrested in 1989, tried as adults, jailed upstate, and exonerated in 2002 with Trump ads in frame. Jharrel Jerome plays Korey with Asante Blackk and Caleel Harris as Kevin and Antron.
Oprah special followed June 12, 2019 with cast interviews and Trump response. The run won Jerome an Emmy for Korey solo part. Netflix bills it limited with no season 2. Watch parts 1 through 4 straight, then the special, since the trial tapes through settlement build the exoneration close.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing. The 1989 arrests through 2014 settlement play forward in broadcast order across four parts of about one hour. Start at Part One, since the park night sets every later interrogation. Treat the 2019 run as finished, with disclaimer added after 2024 settlement.
