About The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years follows Kevin Arnold growing up in the late 1960s with Winnie, Paul and brother Wayne, narrated by adult Kevin. The original ran six seasons from 1988 to 1993 with 115 episodes, tracking school, Vietnam at home and first love in air order.
The 2021 reboot follows Dean Williams, a Black kid in 1960s Montgomery, across two seasons to 2023 with Don Cheadle narrating. It keeps the format but tells a separate family story. Watch the original first, then the reboot, since themes echo but plots never cross.
Good to know
Release order keeps the two families apart, because the reboot restarts the premise with new characters. The original finale from 1993 closes Kevin cleanly. The reboot finale from 2023 closes Dean cleanly. Either run can be watched alone, but in order the shared coming of age beats read best within each era.
