About Chihayafuru
Chihaya Ayase falls for competitive karuta after transfer student Arata Wataya shows her the game, and the anime follows her school club from founding matches to national title contention. Madhouse produced three seasons: 25 episodes from October 2011 to March 2012, 25 episodes from January to June 2013, and 24 episodes from October 2019 to March 2020. The story tracks school years closely, so release order matches story order.
A single-episode OVA bundled with manga volume 22 in 2013 slots between seasons 2 and 3. The live-action track is separate: three Toho films (Kami no Ku and Shimo no Ku in 2016, Musubi in 2018), the five-part Hulu tie-in Tsunagu, and the 10-episode NTV drama Meguri, which aired July to September 2025 with an original story set ten years after the films. Yuki Suetsugu's manga ended in August 2022 at 50 volumes.
Good to know
A recap special condensing the first half of season 3 exists and can be skipped. The anime adapts roughly through volume 27, so the manga's ending has no animated version. No fourth anime season had been announced as of September 2026.
