About Galaxy Express 999
Galaxy Express 999 follows Tetsuro Hoshino and the mysterious Maetel aboard a space train bound for a planet that grants mechanical bodies, created by Leiji Matsumoto. The 1979 film condenses the TV story while Adieu (1981) and Eternal Fantasy (1998) continue the film line, so release order keeps every version in its intended place.

A new theatrical film with a story concept by Rintaro was announced on July 25, 2026 with Toei Animation producing, though no release date has been set. The TV specials and Maetel prequels are optional side viewing once the main list is done.
