About GATE
GATE follows JSDF officer Itami holding a portal to a fantasy empire, mixing modern tactics with dragons and demigods. The 2015 cour ran twelve episodes from the Ginza breach through the first imperial campaign at A-1 Pictures.
Enryuu-hen from early 2016 ran twelve more as the back half of the same twenty-four-episode run into the capital siege. A second season subtitled Tides of Conflict with a new JMSDF cast is scheduled for 2027 at Studio M2. Watch the 2015 cour, then Enryuu-hen, then the sequel.
Good to know
The two 2015 to 2016 cours form one twenty-four-episode series split across seasons, so treat them as a single run rather than separate shows. Enryuu-hen continues the same imperial war directly. Season 2 moves to the sea with new leads but follows the same world. It is scheduled for 2027 with a teaser out. Start with the 2015 cour for Itami's team setup.
