About Overlord
Overlord follows Momonga, a player stuck as his undead avatar Ainz after the MMO Yggdrasil shuts down. Four TV seasons cover it: season 1 in 2015 sets up Nazarick, season 2 in early 2018 pulls back to the lizardmen and the kingdom, season 3 later in 2018 turns Nazarick's plans national, and season 4 in 2022 pays off the political buildup across thirteen episodes each.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom from September 2024 adapts the Holy Kingdom arc that season 4 skipped, so it slots between episodes 7 and 8 of that season in story terms. For a first watch, save it for last, since season 4's finale works better as a closing beat. Two recap films from 2017 are optional refreshers only.
Good to know
Release order is story order if you save the film for last, which is why this stays a single list. The Sacred Kingdom is not a recap and not a side story, it adapts two light novel volumes the TV run stepped over. The Ple Ple Pleiades shorts are gag extras for fans and stay out of the main path. No fifth season has a date, so the four seasons plus the film are the complete anime run for now.
