Universal Century Order Recommended
0 / 14 watchedThe main continuity in story order, from Char's childhood through the far future. Side stories are optional but placed where their events fall.
Standalone and Alternate Universe Order
0 / 15 watchedEvery series with its own timeline, in release order. Each one stands on its own, so the order below is a suggestion rather than a requirement.
About Gundam
Gundam has no single entry point because it has no single continuity. The Universal Century line starts with Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979 and is still being added to now, and the order here moves through it in story order: the One Year War side stories, Zeta and ZZ, Char's Counterattack, then Unicorn, Narrative and the Hathaway films.
Everything outside that line stands alone. G Gundam, Wing, SEED, 00, Iron-Blooded Orphans and The Witch from Mercury each need nothing else watched first, which makes any of them an easier first Gundam. Two projects are announced but unreleased: RG XARX-ZERO for 2027 and the undated SEED Freedom Zero.
Good to know
The Universal Century list is story order, so it departs from release order at the side stories: the 08th MS Team came out in 1996 but belongs with the One Year War. Unicorn exists twice, as a seven-part OVA from 2010 to 2014 and as the cut-down RE:0096 TV recut from 2016, so watch the OVA. If a 1979 series looks too dated, start with Iron-Blooded Orphans or The Witch from Mercury.
