Hellsing Watch Order

Hellsing Ultimate's ten OVAs as the recommended full story versus the 2001 TV series with its anime-original ending. Watch Ultimate first for the complete Millennium war, then the TV run only as an alternate.

About Hellsing

Hellsing comes in two versions of the same setup: Alucard serving Integra against vampires threatening England. The 2001 TV series runs thirteen episodes and follows the manga for its first half before diverging into an anime-original ending, since the manga was unfinished. Hellsing Ultimate runs ten OVAs from 2006 to 2012 at forty-plus minutes each and adapts the full manga, including the Millennium war over London.

Ultimate is the recommended watch: bigger budget, full story, and the Anderson and London siege arcs the TV run never reaches. The TV series works as an alternate with its own music and mood once Ultimate is done. Both share the Cheddar opening with Seras, so either introduces the cast, but only Ultimate finishes their story.

Good to know

Watch Ultimate first and treat the 2001 series as optional. The OVAs cover the complete Hirano story from the Valentine brothers through the Major's war, while the TV ending invents its own Incognito villain. No new anime has been announced, so these two versions are the whole animated run. The manga sits behind Ultimate nearly page for page, which makes it the natural next step rather than a separate viewing branch.
