About Ideon
Space Runaway Ideon ran 39 episodes from May 8, 1980 to January 30, 1981 on TV Tokyo with the Solo Ship fleeing the Buff Clan. Yoshiyuki Tomino directed right after Gundam, and cancellation cut the TV ending short. A Contact from July 10, 1982 recaps the first 32 episodes with new footage.
Be Invoked from July 10, 1982 continues past the series into the infamous finale where both sides are wiped out. The two films opened the same day as a double bill. HIDIVE streamed the series in English from 2017. No new Ideon anime has been made.
Good to know
Series then Be Invoked is the core path, since Be Invoked is the real ending. A Contact can be skipped on a first pass unless you want the recap with smoothed transitions. The TV finale episode 39 does not resolve the war, which is why the films were made. Expect a bleak close famously darker than Gundam, and do not start with Be Invoked alone.
