About Magic Knight Rayearth
Magic Knight Rayearth adapts CLAMP's manga about three schoolgirls summoned to save Cephiro. Season one aired 20 episodes from 1994 to 1995 covering the Zagato rescue and the Emeraude reveal. Season two aired 29 episodes in 1995 with the invader pillars and the Hikaru succession. The 1997 OVA trilogy retells the premise in a darker alternate world.
The manga finished with six volumes across both arcs, so the anime covers the complete story with no gaps. No sequel has been announced, leaving the second season's coronation as the planned close rather than a cancellation stop.
Good to know
Watch seasons one and two in broadcast order, since the Emeraude twist and the pillar succession assume the full rescue. The OVA shares names only with a new tone and plot, safe as an alternate after the TV run. The Sega Saturn game adapts the first season for players wanting the same story interactively.
