About Oni: Thunder God's Tale
Oni: Thunder God's Tale is Tonko House's stop motion flavored miniseries about Onari, a free spirited girl who learns her father Naridon is the feared Thunder God. All four episodes premiered October 21, 2022 on Netflix, running 42 to 47 minutes each. Daisuke Tsutsumi created it with Mari Okada writing and Megalis and Dwarf on animation.
The four chapters tell one closed myth from Kushi power through the storm gods to the truth and the demon moon. It won two Emmys and was billed as a limited series from the start. No sequel or second season is announced, so the four stand as the whole tale.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 through 4 in order. The Kushi power setup and the storm god parley pay off only in sequence, and episode 3 reframes both before the moon rises. The miniseries covers its myth fully in under four hours with no recap to place. No continuation is announced. The art book and behind the scenes shorts are extras for after, not between.
