About Satoshi Kon
Satoshi Kon directed four features for Madhouse about memory, fame and dreams. Perfect Blue (1997) follows idol Mima unravelling under a stalker. Millennium Actress (2001) runs a life story as film history. Tokyo Godfathers (2003) grounds three homeless friends on Christmas Eve. Paprika (2006) closes with a dream device heist.
Kon died August 24, 2010 at 46, leaving the fifth film Dreaming Machine unfinished and cancelled. The four stand alone with no shared cast, though Paprika reuses Perfect Blue dream cuts bigger. Watch in release order to see the editing tricks grow from hard cuts to full dream logic.
Good to know
Release order is the only order, since no film continues another. Perfect Blue plays harshest first, while Tokyo Godfathers plays warmest in the middle as a break. Paranoia Agent (2004) is his 13 episode TV series and sits outside the features, best saved for after Paprika. Treat the set as complete, with no new Kon film possible.
