About Special A
Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match at age six and lost, and she has chased him ever since through grades, sports and every school contest. Both land in the Special A group, seven top students with their own greenhouse building and relaxed rules. Kei likes Hikari while she insists he is only a rival, which drives most of the comedy.
Gonzo and AIC animated Maki Minami's Hana to Yume manga as 24 episodes that aired from April to September 2008 under director Yoshikazu Miyao with scripts by Jukki Hanada. Sentai Filmworks licensed the show in North America. The manga ran to 17 volumes, so the anime adapts the core rivalry and friendship arcs in one compact run.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Special A worth listing. The anime is a single straight run, so release order and story order are the same list. Drama CDs reuse the anime cast for side sketches and are optional. The manga sequel story Street Fight was never animated, so anime-only viewers get a finished but compressed version of the romance.
